Control volume with your Magic Trackpad

Use Slidr's edge gestures with an external Magic Trackpad, as well as a MacBook's built-in trackpad.

Does Slidr work with a Magic Trackpad?

Yes. Slidr supports a Magic Trackpad on a Mac running macOS 12 Monterey or later. Slide along the right edge for volume and the left edge for brightness by default.

Set up your Magic Trackpad for volume control

  1. Connect your Magic Trackpad to your Mac and check that the Mac runs macOS 12 Monterey or later.
  2. Download Slidr, open the DMG file and drag Slidr to Applications.
  3. Open Slidr from Applications. Allow Accessibility permission in your Mac's privacy settings so Slidr can read trackpad gestures.
  4. Slide up along the right edge of the Magic Trackpad to increase volume, or down to decrease it.

Do I need a MacBook's built-in trackpad?

No. Slidr supports a Magic Trackpad as well as a MacBook's built-in trackpad. You can use the external trackpad for edge volume and brightness gestures.

Choose how gestures fit your setup

The bottom-quarter option limits gestures to that part of the trackpad. The modifier-key option lets you require a key to be held or toggled before gestures activate. These options let you choose when your Magic Trackpad should adjust volume.

Slidr also automatically ignores gestures while you type. Pause typing before testing an edge adjustment, including when you use a separate keyboard with your Magic Trackpad.

Why are Magic Trackpad gestures not changing the volume?

Make sure Slidr is running and has Accessibility permission. If you use the modifier-key or bottom-quarter options, follow those settings when you slide. Slidr ignores gestures while you type.
